I love what I get to do every day. I find CrossFit to be a incredible framework for constant self-improvement. It’s written in its culture. As we seek to not only change what our bodies look like and push ourselves to levels we never thought attainable, we actually begin the journey of mastery.

Here’s the thing: not everyone has the talent to be a professional athlete. I learned that first hand as my obsession with training grew. However, everyone has the potential to be a top performer relative to their individual goals. CrossFit has created a canvas that allows us to create, experiment, and even make mistakes. I love to be able to take what I am continually learning and help people chase their goals and realize their capabilities.

I have trained collegiate and high school athletes, project managers, lawyers, teachers, law enforcers, and soccer moms. They all show up for various reasons: to look better, to feel better, to have more energy, etc. We are all essentially chasing self-improvement. I have also put in the hours and chipped away to become a mediocre athlete after starting off as a very terrible one. My pursuit of excellence is never-ending, and I want to work with those that are willing to work towards the same.

Luke began Crossfit when he first heard about it from an old football friend of his. Once getting to know more and more about it, he had found it value in bettering a person’s quality of life, including his own. As an overweight and potential diabetic child Luke knew he would have to make a change in lifestyle and Crossfit fit perfectly with him. One of his first workouts was “Cindy”-consisting of pull-ups, pushups, and air squats. After struggling to get through the simple workout, it helped define where his level of fitness stood and wanted to improve it from then on.

Luke has a heart for Crossfit and its values through community and is currently attending Azusa Pacific University to complete his B.S. in Applied Exercise Science.

Alex’s fitness journey began in high school when he joined the swim team. As a chubby adolescent, he never went anywhere with fitness. Two years into college, Alex began Crossfit by taking classes offered by Crossfit certified trainers at UCLA under the label “Intensive Functional Training (IFT).” His first workout was “Annie,” which consists of sit-ups and double-unders. As simple as it seemed, the workout smashed him. This initial experience piqued his interest and hunger for more. As he continued with IFT, Alex saw enormous strength and physique gains from the constantly varied programming. Having had such a rich and robust experience with Crossfit, Alex decided that he wanted to become a Level 1 Trainer in order to help others incorporate Crossfit to better their lives.

Robbie struggled with being overweight his entire childhood. At his worst, he was diagnosed as clinically obese with Stage 2 Hypertension having a resting blood pressure of 160/100. It seemed like a prescription of pill-popping was in his future. Instead, he chose a life-long prescription of movement and good nutrition. Rob began his fitness journey in 2009, when he could not run a mile, or do a single pushup. Since then, CrossFit has helped him to lose over 80 pounds of fat. Over the next couple of years, CrossFit helped him gain over 40 pounds of muscle mass. Despite all of the progress that Rob already seen at Reason, he sincerely looks forward to witnessing all the untapped potential that rests inside of all Reason athletes.

Growing up in suburban Orange County, Tim spent half his time in the water either surfing or swimming. When he joined the US Army in 2010, he realized that he had a huge deficit in his strength, highlighted by the amount of physical training he was doing in the Army. While searching for a program that would help him fix his weaknesses, a friend suggested doing the “Filthy Fifty” at the local globo gym. While recovering, he realized that Crossfit would help him become a better Soldier and athlete. Since then, Tim has halved his “Filthy” time and nearly tripled in strength. In his spare time, Tim still loves catching waves, or eating pints of Ben and Jerries’ Cherries Garcia.

Beth was raised to be active in the SF Bay Area, hiking, biking, running, and swimming with her family. When she was in elementary school, her dad taught her how to do pull-ups. It became one of her favorite activities to swing on the monkey bars during recess.

After playing competitive sports from sixth grade through college, Beth first encountered the challenge of CrossFit in 2012 with an awful workout of burpees, box jumps, and running. She somehow got hooked a year later. She now trains hard for the sweet competition, for community, and for God’s glory.

Improving people and refining their skills brought her to CrossFit Reason. She works at a tech company in Pasadena, plays volleyball and her guitar, seeks out adventure with people she loves, and still swings on bars for fun.

Ben first heard about CrossFit from an old high school friend of his – owner and head coach of CrossFit Reason, Eric Chang – and decided to check it out.  Ben soon became passionate about CrossFit methodology, especially the constantly varied work outs in congruence with an emphasis on a strong nutritional foundation.  He believes CrossFit to be the best strength and conditioning program out there.

Ben has a passion for helping people, which is part of the reason he left the corporate lifestyle to pursue a doctorate in physical therapy.  Before CrossFit, he led a number of his personal friends to stronger physiques and healthier lifestyles through body building routines and nutritional counseling.  Now, Ben is doing the same, but with a stronger knowledge base rooted in CrossFit methodology and a larger goal in mind: to wed functional fitness with physical therapy as preventative care for the human body and spirit, as well as a therapeutic avenue for longevity.

Peter is the “resident strongman” and “strength guy.” Before beginning Crossfit, Peter’s fitness routines consisted of the bench press and the deadlift. Having played offensive line for his high school football team, Peter started Crossfit with a huge strength bias, weighing in around 250lbs, with a 365lb bench press and 495lb deadlift. Yet, he could barely do 10 burpees before his lungs caught up to him. Through Crossfit Reason, he has become a more balanced athlete, being able to string together now do 100 burpees in under 9 minutes, string 10 pull-ups and even stringing together handstand pushups. Since starting Crossfit, Peter has lost 15lbs, but surprisingly his strength numbers have not gone down. Peter hopes to dispel the myth that lifting heavy will make you “big and bulky.”

He hopes to teach everyone that a stronger and fitter body leads to a happier and healthier life. (and yes, he lifts…)
